Loving life while coping with infertility

Support from family & friends November 17, 2008

I have been thinking a lot about how to best and better support those friends and family members of mine struggling with this and what I need from others as well.  I found a website that I thought had some great ideas (along with a few of my own) for friends and family to best support those that they know.  Here are some ideas to pass along:

  • Learn about infertility
  • Ask how best to support – don’t guess what you think would be “good to say”
  • Don’t force the issue
  • Resist comparisons
  • Don’t be overly optimistic or pessismistic
  • Avoid recommending treatments
  • Remember both partners
  • Love unconditionally
  • Listen more than talk or give advice

Is there such a thing as faith in infertility? November 6, 2008

I just wanted to mention a few thoughts that I came across the other day and one of my own about increasing your faith in others but more importantly, yourself.

The quote I came across said, “Fear knocked at the door, faith answered and lo, no one was there.” Another stated, “Faith is reason, grown courageous.”  When I came across both of these, I really had to think about them and decide what they meant to me.  I have talked before about the importance of faith replacing fear.  This cannot be more important!  Faith – or even blind faith is powerful and increases our trust and faith in ourselves.  I also love the second quote because faith can be seen as reason.  We often describe reason as being thinking or cognition.  Think of it this way – our thinking is faith that has grown out of courage.  Ask yourself what you have had the courage to do during this time.  I am sure it is more than what you originally thought.

Good Luck finding your faith in infertility!
